Dear Valued Stakeholder,
Please be informed that the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS)
will implement mandatory pre-lodgment of customs declarations for road
freight imports, exports, and transit goods, effective 1 August 2026.
Under this requirement, all customs declarations and supporting
documents must be submitted through the BURS Customs Management System
and receive a “PROCEED TO BORDER” status before goods are dispatched
to the border. Failure to comply may result in penalties and operational
delays.
Traders conducting business with Botswana are encouraged to review
their customs and logistics processes and ensure that the necessary
measures are in place to comply with these new requirements.
